Gloriously saved and radically changed!
This is a story of how God gets deeply involved and creates extraordinary connections when people share His message. At age 16, Ted Betz came to the Lord through Christian music. Soon after that, he had to face his father’s death with no one to encourage him in the Lord. This led to a long period of backsliding. For 15 years, Ted’s daughter prayed that her father would return to the Lord. At age 57, Ted realized he had let his job of managing real estate be the primary focus of his life. He saw that he was full of stress from not living right. Finally, he felt his need for God. The Lord reached into His life and rescued him.
Humble beginning leads to the greatest thrill of Ted’s life!
One day Ted noticed a trucker sitting by the roadside. He wanted to see if the trucker needed anything, but the trucker just motioned him on. Ted thought, “Well, I’ll pray for him anyway.” Another truck was in front of that one, so he prayed for that truck driver also. He felt impressed to visit the nearby truck stop and donate to the ministry that provides Bibles to truckers. When he arrived, he was told that forty to fifty Bibles were placed there each week and gone in a few days. Ted asked if he could also provide Bibles, resulting in him having his own stand at the truck stop. Never would he dream of how God would direct this ministry or how many lives God would touch through it!
Kingdom catalog article helps launch a ministry!
Ted experienced a passion to provide recorded messages for the truck drivers. He asked his pastor where he could buy inexpensive blank CDs. His pastor directed him to Kingdom and gave him a catalog. Ted was amazed to find an article about a man doing truck stop ministry, the very ministry he was excited to do! Ted called Jimmy Evans (the man from the article) and they talked for an hour. Jimmy sent Ted a copy of all his messages.
With help, Ted recorded music and offered those recordings for free at the truck stop. He started duplicating on his computer, but soon needed greater volume, so he purchased a duplicator. Later he was given an additional duplicator, enabling him to make 100 CDs every 30 minutes.
Message inspires woman to go back to church!
The Lord arranged the circumstances for Ted to meet Josh McDowell who has a wonderful testimony about converting from atheism to Christianity. Ted received Josh’s permission to distribute recorded messages of that testimony on CD. A man received one of those recordings at a truck stop. He tried to give his daughter’s best friend a CD, but she refused to listen to it. The young lady’s mother had been searching for a book she had about an atheist who became a Christian, but she couldn’t find it. It was so timely when the man offered the girl’s mother the CD about Josh McDowell, and she happily received it. The lady and her daughter both listened to the recording, and for the first time in years, they went to church that Sunday!
“My work was kind of exciting, but nothing compares to this!”
He enthusiastically shares, “I could jump up and down with joy. In the past when I was a workaholic, I did different kinds of jobs and owned buildings and that was kind of exciting, but nothing compares to this! The real excitement is working with God!”
