What to look for in a Cassette Recorder/ Cassette Deck
Optical Auto-Reverse
Optically senses the end of the tape (and beginning of the leader) and
instantly reverses and continues (playing or recording) on the other
side. This is extremely helpful when recording and ensures that you won’t lose valuable
seconds of your message. |
| Mechanical Auto-Reverse
Mechanically senses the end of the tape and leader and reverses and
continues (playing or recording) on the other side, but does go through
the complete leader before reversing. Don’t be fooled by decks that
only reverse in playback.
Independent Wells
Dual-well decks with this feature allow you to play and send the signal
to a mixer from one well, and sing along and record your performance in
the other well at the same time—or make two separate masters of the
same message!
High-speed Dubbing
In dual-well decks, allows you to record from one tape well to the
other at greater than normal speed, usually 2X-speed (twice as fast)!
Serial or Relay Record
Dual-well decks with this feature will record in one well until the
first tape is full then automatically begin recording on the second
tape in the other well.
Pitch Control
Adjusts the speed of your tape when playing. Most useful for adjusting the key of a music tape to match a singer’s voice.
